Hi Vijay, thank you very much for your swift reply to my query. I do apologise for not replying sooner; very rude of me. As yet, I have not found the time to experiment: we are currently looking after our grandaughter, and are not at home.

I am in the throes of a forced renewal of my main computer; the existing PC ( using Windows 7) has been threatening to die on me for a while, so I now have a new PC, which came with Windows 8, and which I immediately upgraded to Windows 10: this forces a lot of adjustment of course. I'm keeping the old PC in place while I get the new one(and myself)up to speed, so have to fiddle a bit to connect up the peripherals.

As soon as I have had a chance to try out the Windows 7 drivers, I shall report back with the results. Thanks again Brian. Hi Vijay, I'm sorry to report failure! I have tried with Windows 7 (32bit) selected; didn't seem to download at all. Then tried Windows 7 (64bit) selected. Downloaded, but lead me into a series of choices 'did this work?' , if not 'try compatibility mode', 'troubleshoot' etc.

Very confusing, and hard to track what I had tried. At one point my PC seemed to 'know' it had a scanner plugged in, but couldn't access it. I do hope there will be a simpler way of getting my scanner to work with Windows 10. Although I have had it a few years now, it is still perfectly good, and I use it when I get time to progressively digitise my collection of transparancies and negatives. It seems quite unreasonable to place me in a position of having to scrap it just because I can't get Windows 7 anymore. Please can you help with more precise instructions?

For your information I now have the following download installed on my PC: Bets wishes Brian M Barber. Hi BrianBarber, I upgraded my 3rd and last PC to W10.

This one has peripherals, a Canon printer: Pixma IP4300 and a scanner: Canoscan 9950F. Both are running well with W10. Concerning the printer.

I tried to install the downloaded driver with no success. W10 didn't even detect it. Then I uninstalled the driver and used the old setup DVD (the one given with the printer), with not much hope.

As soon as the driver was installed, my printer jumped to life. I printed a pdf file for test: OK! Concerning the scanner. Upgrading to W10 transfered the toolbox from W7 (V4.9) to W10 and it runs well too. I successfully made a test scan.

I didn't reinstall the driver. In fact I did nothing, Windows did it. I didn't took note of the driver version Windows installed, but if you want, I'll do it. In brief: our (very good) scanner is compatible. Hi tdug, Very interesting response; thank you. I'm glad to find another enthusiast for the 9950F.

I sometimes think that, when I write about this stuff, I sound like an expert. Anything but!! In reality I'm at, or just over, the limit of what I can comprehend. I just want to get on and use the computer plus kit, not spend hours fruitlessly searching for solutions to problems built in to an unwanted change by Microsoft. (Microsoft, please note!) Unfortunately for me, my old(ish) PC is untrustworthy, which is why I have decided to replace it with a new laptop. Of course, it turned out not to be possible to buy one with Windows 7 as the OS. Hence my current predicament.

Maybe when Vijay can reply to my response on 30 August I'll have something else to try. Otherwise, based on your encouraging comments, I shall look out the old installation discs for the 9950F and give them a go. Might even try transferring stuff via DVD from my old PC to see if that works (must say I'm a bit reluctant to do this because of the risk of infection). Thanks again; I'll report further when I've got any results. Thanks for all your replies. My scanner is most definitely not broken: just made obsolete by Microsoft's unacceptable approach to software design. Buku Kesehatan Lingkungan Pdf Viewer. Since my last post, I have had telephone contact both with Microsoft and with Canon over this issue.

The final result is that Canon will not support the 9950F scanner on Windows 10, and Microsoft say simply that they cannot help. In my view, this is a disgraceful situation, but, beyond protesting, there is nothing else I can do. It will certainly colour my decisions on any purchases in the future, and it must be clear to all that it is quite unsustainable to introduce changes which consign perfectly good pieces of equipment to the scrap heap.

I may still pay my computer expert to convert my new laptop back to Windows 7, but haven't yet established the cost for this. Good wishes for the New Year! Brian M Barber.
