Although sometimes called 'doo-wop,' 'soul,' 'funk,' 'urban contemporary,' or 'hip-hop,' R&B is actually an umbrella category that includes all of these styles and genres. It is in fact a modern-day incarnation of a musical tradition that stretches back to nineteenth-century America, and even further to African beginnings. The New Blue Music: Changes in Rhythm & Blues, 1950-1999 traces the development of R&B from 1950 to 1999 by closely analyzing the top twenty-five songs of each decade.

The music of artists as wide-ranging as Louis Jordan; John Lee Hooker; Ray Charles; James Brown; Earth, Wind & Fire; Michael Jackson; Public Enemy; Mariah Carey; and Usher takes center stage as the author illustrates how R&B has not only retained its traditional core style, but has also experienced a 're-Africanization' over time. By investigating musical elements of form, style, and content in R&B—and offering numerous musical examples—the book shows the connection between R&B and other forms of American popular and religious music, such as spirituals, ragtime, blues, jazz, country, gospel, and rock 'n' roll. With this evidence in hand, the author hypothesizes the existence of an even larger musical 'super-genre' which he labels 'The New Blue Music.' Ripani is a faculty member at Hume-Fogg Academic High School in Nashville, Tennessee. He is also a professional musician and songwriter in Nashville, performing with artists such as Ronnie Milsap, Ronnie McDowell, the Kentucky Headhunters, and Lee Greenwood.
He has worked on numerous national television programs and earned gold and platinum records. It is a combination of the information presented in Rhythms Volumes One, Two and Three, but it is presented in a very simplified manner. The beginning student will be able to read the rhythms slowly, to familiarize themselves with basic rhythmic concepts.
On the other hand, the advanced player will find that playing these exercises quickly will greatly facilitate reading skills. A 'speed-reading' course for the advanced student, this is one of the teaching 'secrets' that Mr. Arnold now presents in book form. All examples use one pitch, allowing the student to focus completely on time and rhythm on the instrument of their choice.
All exercises can be downloaded from the internet to facilitate correct practice, enhance clarity and aid internalization. See http: //www.muse-eek.com for details. This book is a required text at New York Universities and Princeton University Music department. Author by: Thomas R.

Author by: Robert McFadden Language: en Publisher by: WestBow Press Format Available: PDF, ePub, Mobi Total Read: 89 Total Download: 461 File Size: 53,5 Mb Description: Poetry appears in the Bible in numerous forms throughout both the Old and the New Testaments, from the book of Job and the psalms to the letters from Paul. Its use provides a heightened awareness of the message conveyed; it exposes depths of meaning that apply to each individual’s inner murmurings and elevates the holy text to endless levels of perception. In The Rhythm of Job, author Robert McFadden offers a unique presentation of the longest and oldest poem of the Old Testament, the book of Job, which explores humanity’s struggle to understand suffering under the shadow of a loving God.
McFadden seeks to illuminate the original cadence and parallelism of Job through the use of a side-by-side paraphrasing of the book as it appears in the King James Bible. In doing so, he creates a fresh rhythm while retelling this enduring story. This poetic adaptation reveals the lessons from the book of Job in the form of an epic poem that both honors the original text and brings new life to this timeless tale. Which particular measures are you talking about? I looked through that entire score and the only weirdnesses I noticed were a bunch of measures with a 6 in the denominator -- easy to count, just look at the instruments with stuff there -- instances of multiple time signatures -- 3/8 + 2/4 means it's a 3/8 bar followed by a 2/4 bar; 3/8 / 6/16 means that you can count either way -- and a part where half the group was following the conductor with some weird time and the other half was following the bass drum in strict 4/4.
