Hello, where do I get ASUS EZ Installer? I don't have a DVD drive so can't use the ASUS support DVD. ASRock offers a similar software that could be used, but I rather use ASUS EZ Installer. Why didn't you put it on your website for download like they did for their Motherboards? Ftp://europe.asrock.com/Utility/UsbPatcher/UsbPatcher(v1.0.6).zip Hello Probably best to spend the $12.00 or so for an optical drive for these type of issues when building a system. I remembered that I have a laptop lying around so I extracted the software from the DVD there. I have uploaded it for others here: Anyway, I noticed that your tool does not create a 'EFI Boot bootx64.efi' file which is required for Windows 7 to boot on a UEFI PC.

It is a bit stupid that your software does not create this file, thus not making the installation bootable. I have uploaded the file here: Extract it and put it on the USB flash drive at 'E: efi boot' or whatever drive letter your USB is mounted to. The below method is the correct way to prepare USB stick, the file I uploaded is the file described below. Preparing the USB Stick for UEFI Check if the file 'BOOTX64.EFI' via the path EFI BOOT is available on the stick. If this is not the case, you can copy the file to the stick by using one of the two methods below: If access to the stick is via a UEFI-enabled computer with a Windows 7 (or higher) x64, the Bootloader can be copied and renamed to the stick. You can do this on the system partition under: C: Windows Boot EFI for the file bootmgfw.efi Copy it to the stick in the EFI BOOT folder and rename this file BOOTX64.EFI (notice the reverse order of efi and boot) The file bootmgfw.efi can also be extracted from a Windows 7 (or higher) x64 - DVD.

It is located in the 2.7 GByte large archive Install.wim in the subdirectory sources. The archive can be extracted with an archiving program. This file is located in the subdirectory '1' of the archive at 1 Windows Boot EFI. I also tried the ASRock software but it does not work, it complains that path of driver folder is not valid, but there is not even any option to select the location of USB 3 driver. By using ASUS EZ Installer and the Bootx64.efi file, you are ready to go. I remembered that I have a laptop lying around so I extracted the software from the DVD there.

Hello The ASUS Win7 tool does exactly what it is designed to do. Allows Win7 to be installed even though it does not natively support xHCI. Win7 will install fine after using the utility if installed in legacy mode. Modding the Win7 install media for UEFI or any other purpose is not the intent of the utility. The easiest method to do this, would be to use Rufus: In Rufus do this (select the ISO by clicking the CD drive icon): Then copy the AutoUnattend folder and AutoUnattend.xml file to the root of the USB stick: If you don't have access to the Support DVD, I uploaded it here: Remember to enable CSM in BIOS, but install in UEFI mode.

It should now boot fine. Sorry guys, I have the ISO on the disc and copied the two folders on there and came to the same issue. When I 'browse' the drives in the windows install, I've only got harddrive X. Do I need to enable this CSM mode? Where is that located and is it not on by default?

Kind regards. I've spent quite a few hours trying to install Win 7 on a Z170 Pro Gaming today. A few findings: Using the Asus tool to create a USB stick does not work (tried the tool both on a win 8.1 and a Win 7 32 bit PC). The tool completes but when using the USB stick I either get no USB 3 support (meaning I cannot use keyboard/mouse) or I get the message in this thread 'missing driver.' Using a optical SATA drive with Asus DVD + USB stick with Win 7 I get a bit further. Download No End In Sight The Very Best Of Foreigner Zippyshare. I get as far as 'Extracting files 100%.' During the Win 7 install but then nothing happens (tried 3 times).

To eliminate a faulty USB stick I installed Windows 10 using the same stick and it worked fine. So then tried using Rufus (both GPT/UEFI and Legacy BIOS) with and without the USB drivers from the ASUS DVD + Win 7. This did not work either. My last attempt now (looks like it has worked) was with a Rufus created Win 7 USB stick with the USB 3 drivers.

Then when the install complains about 'missing driver.' I browsed and used this driver (on another USB stick): Intel_USB3_Win7_V40036_Win81_V10042 Windows7 Driv ers HCSwitch x64 iusb3hcs I found that driver on the Asus Support pages for Z170 Pro Gaming (it's in the Intel USB 3 package).

Anyway, it's now booted into Win 7 and is downloading Windows Updates. Sorry, my instructions does not work.

I posted them without trying properly but tonight I have tested everything and found a solution. First I tried to boot the Installation USB.

Keyboard and mouse works but no HDD is detected and I get driver error when trying to load the AHCI driver: I then tried to launch the setup from WinPE 10, HDD was detected but Install failed: So then I used ApplyWim method to put Windows on HDD without installing it. First you need to Download WinPE 10 ISO ((I uploaded only WinPE for you so you don't need to download the whole 3 GB Windows 10 ADK). Extract the files to the root of the USB drive (the flash drive must be FAT32).

Copy install.wim from Windows 7 ISO Sources folder to the root of the USB drive. Download ApplySeven (and extract the files to the root of USB, where you copied install.wim Go into BIOS and set Secure Boot to 'Other OS' and then enable CSM: Boot the USB drive.

When you are at CMD window: Type diskpart Type list disk and check if your HDD is disk 0 (or disconnect all other HDD's from your PC except the one you want to have Windows on (safer)). Then figure out which drive letter your USB drive is mounted at by typing: list volume You can see it by the label of the USB.

Then select that volume by typing (where X is the number): select volume X Then type: ASSIGN LETTER=D Last step is to run the Apply script. Type exit in diskpart, then type D: and ApplyImage.bat The script will then format and create all partitions on disk 0 and apply Windows image to it, and finally copy bootloader. You will see a message at the end when bootloader has been copied, just reboot PC and you will be at the OOBE setup. You can also put the install.wim and the other files on a second internal HDD, it will apply much faster, ~ 3 min, but you have to change the drive letter of that HDD to D.

Did you create the drive as MBr or GTP with rufus? Tired both options in Rufus with different combinations of BIOS settings.

Also tried both FAT 32 and NTFS on the USB stick. Going for UEFI GPT in Rufus and full UEFI settings in BIOS eventually gets you to a BIOS message saying something like 'some settings are invalid/incompatible so we have changed them for you, press F2 to continue or F1 to enter BIOS'. N64 Controller Serial Protocol Analyzer. When checking the BIOS it has indeed enabled CSM again (running latest BIOS 0301). My Win 7 install seems to be running fine after I used the HCSwitch x64 iusb3hcs driver.

Although it is not using UEFI boot. Will probably not spend anymore time on this as I intend to replace the Z170 Pro Gaming board with the ROG VIII Extreme when it becomes available. Hello guys, I think I found another solution.

You need to integrate USB 3 driver to boot.wim and it will detect HDD during setup. I have not tied to install this way since I don't want to re-install Windows now. Windows 7 installed completly but omfg no usb ports are working WTF So cant install nothing from flash drives WTF is this bull**** Strange thig is my Mouse anf KB work but in device manager its being picked up as PS2 lmao Did you install USB 3 driver by using the setup or from device manager? When I did did it from Device Manger, all USB ports stopped working and I had to reinstall Windows. My WiFi dongle was not working on both USB 2 and USB 3 until I installed USB 3 driver. So be sure to install USB 3 the correct way. Just wondering my Wim is a different version ithe windows iam using is a modified ISO image completly updated do you think that would affect it? Many hours gone. What happened to my precious time! This was the fix, however I had to put ALL there drivers in the 'Intel_USB3_Win7_V40036_Win81_V10042' which is found on the Asus website via the Maximums VIII Hero Drivers DL page for win 7 x64 Hello guys, I think I found another solution. So, I was using the ASUS EZ INSTALLER off of the damned disc that came in the box. It actually failed to install windows all the way using the old DVDs software.

Giving the error of windows cannot be install due to unsupported HW. I have downloaded the ASUS EZ INSTALLER, from the ASUS Driver page under utilities for this MOBO. Which is dated as new of AUGUST 2015. It takes longer to load but, USB works, moved over the LAN drivers on a USB and now I am cooking. SOLUTION: The solution for me was just to burn a DVD and use a SATA DVD drive to install Windows 7. The issue is clearly Asus BIOS not having proper legacy emulation support for windows 7 USB drivers. A frustrating and insufferable experience that ruined an otherwise happy new computer build.

Once in Windows Keyboard and Mouse worked fine but no USB Flash Drives would work lol. So had to burn a disk with the USB drivers and the LAN drivers from another computer off the website (as I didn't have the original disk) Perhaps Asus will install a BIOS patch to fix it. Hi all, Just wanted to thank Desmond86, its trick (updating boot.wim) worked for me.

I did not have to use any DVD, I simply used Rufus to create a USB Key from the updated ISO. Before that, I tried this tip from 'HowToGeek': However, it did not work for my Z170 machine. Still, HowToGeek gives good indications on how to slipstream a Windows7 Install ISO. Serge www.skydelsolutions.com.
